Lets be honest, at this point I am a pro at creating last minute costumes. It went new baby, pandemic, another new baby 3 years straight and each year I have decided "I'm not celebrating this year" until last minute happens and I change my mind and decide to have fomo and worry that Ill regret not doing it.
In my opinion Celebrity & TV show inspired Halloween costumes particularly on babies and toddlers are one of my favorite things to create and since its Latinx heritage month, who better than to recreate than Selena Quintanilla because "anything for Selenas" LOL.
Junie was actually Selena technically 2 years ago right before she turned 2 (2020 during pandemic) and this year for a campaign I did for Pinterest. I chose to do no makeup but you definitely can add a red lippy or something for your babe if you decide to.
Here's what you need to do:
+ Inspiration: Find the Selena look you want to recreate. There are so many iconic Selena looks so this may in fact be the most difficult part LOL. I found inspo by searching "Selena Quintanilla Halloween costume" on Pinterest
+ Costume: Get an outfit together to match the look. I found mine on amazon for under $15 but I suggest looking around the house to find similar colors or materials of the outfit you chose. You can search for an actual Selena costume if you don't mind spending a little more but I didn't feel it was necessary.
+ Hair & Makeup: Junie already has such long beautiful thick dark hair so it wasn't necessary to buy a wig so I just went with the retro 90s dramatized curled bangs in front and did a half up, half down pony to recreate a hairstyle she wore. As I said I didn't want to cover her face in makeup for this particular costume but by all means, go all out if you want to add a little extra to your babes look.
+ Shoes: honestly, I dont even think the shoes matter but if you're trying to complete the look, id go with a sparkly flat or any boots will work. I went with Junie's brown leather cowgirl boots that she already owned.
+ Accessories: You can get creative here. I had a rose that was on its way out so I decided to add that but a kids cordless microphone would be pretty cute if you happen to have one handy.
Thats it! Easiest look ever, representative of her culture and she is just happy to get her hands on candy. What are your babes dressing up as for Halloween this year?
